I realize that this page is still in development but having conducted several of these trainings, primarily the three-day event, I would like to note the following; the sessions on Introduction, Selection, Framework, Mapping, Conducting a VC analysis and the exercisies all work extremely well. They hold the participants attention and are generally seen as excellent training modules in getting the methodology and concepts across. I do think we need to look at up-dating and modifying the sessions on competitiveness strategy, conducting stakeholder workshops and the implementation plan. For whatever reason (last day, trainer/participant fatigue, lack of clarity on where this needs to go) these sessions drag somewhat. I would suggest we develop more group based exercises for the competitiveness strategy session beyond the constraints and opportunities analysis. Also with regard to the implementation plan session, many of these VCs are quite complex and beset with myriad problems based in actor behaviour, the EE, lack of catalyst firms interested in up-grades that have chain transformation capacity. All this can be a bit overwhelming for participants trying to see first steps and what really can happen to makes things move. Some real project examples of successful, small "do-able" linkages that have brought actors together in ways that can lay the ground work for further competitiveness development, i.e. input suppliers and producers, traders and producers groups, buyer involvement with producers, etc.
