How to upload a file

To upload a file so users can download it:

1-- at the lower left of the screen, there is a toolbox area. Inside it, click on the link to 'upload file.'

2-- On the page that follows, browse to select the file to upload. Specify any other information. Strange file types other than the usual suspects (doc, pdf) may be blocked from uploading. We could change the allowed list if it is critical.)

3-- You will see that the page that results is a page like this: Image:Testfile.doc (yours will of course have your file name instead of Testfile.doc.)

4-- Therefore, on any page that you want to insert a hyperlink to download the file, simply place Image:Yourfile.doc inside the standard double-square-brackets. They will be zapped to that page which provides the download link and has the additional context information that you typed.

NOTE that because this function was actually created for the purposes of uploading IMAGE files, the file page itself refers to the document as an image. That's annoying, but in short it works with any file. IF the file you upload is an image file, then the image may simply appear on the page when you make the link to it.
