Creating an account and logging in

From microLINKS Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This wiki is now configured so that only users that are fully logged into the wiki can edit or create pages.

However, the process of getting an account, if you don't have one, is easy:

  • To see if you are currently "logged in," look at the links at the far upper right of this page. If the rightmost link says "Log in/Create Account," then you are not logged in.
  • If you are not logged in but you do know your userID and password, then just click that "Log in/Create Account" link and log in. The top right text line will now include your user name, and you will now be able to make use of the "Edit" tabs above wiki pages, that allow you to edit content. If you want a lesson on how to Edit content, go to Getting Started on this Wiki.
  • If you don't have a userID and password for this site, then do the following:
  1. Click on "Log in/Create Account"
  2. Then click the link marked "Create Account"
  3. On this page, fill out the form, specifying your user name of choice, password, your real email address, and real name.
  4. Write the username and password down or email them to yourself.
  5. When you submit this form, you will automatically be logged into your new account.
  6. Important: Within an hour, you will get an email asking you to confirm your new account creation. You must follow the instructions in that email to confirm your new account. It simply involves clicking on a link in the email.
  7. Look at the upper right of the screen and you will see that the row of links begins with your user name, because you are now logged in.
  8. This next step is important, so that the rest of the users on our Wiki will know who you are when they see your contributions. Click on the link that is your user name. (This will take you to your "user page," which is for you to write some facts about yourself, and your contact information, so that people will know about the other contributors to the pages they see.) Now that you are at your User Page, click the Edit tab. In the text area, type some sentences about who you are, your job or your role, your main areas of focus, and your contact information. When you are done, then click the "Save Page" button at the very bottom of the page. This will save the information into your User Page.
  9. You are done! Go back to the Main Page or to whatever other links to the wiki that you have, and start contributing!
